Arranged and conducted by Gary McFarland for Verve Records, 'Big Band Bossa Nova' was greenlit to follow up the massive commercial success of 'Jazz Samba'. It contextualized Getz's tenor saxophone within a larger orchestral framework, furthering the widespread popularization of Brazilian rhythms in American jazz.
