Album Notes & Community Reviews

Compiling superb recordings from two distinct studio sessions tracked in 1949 and 1950, this release beautifully highlights the tenor saxophonist's remarkably airy, vibrato-less aesthetic. Navigating a set of deeply melodic originals and standards, his impossibly fluid, Lester Young-influenced phrasing floats effortlessly over the subtly swinging rhythm sections. The historically essential collection serves as a definitive textbook on the relaxed elegance that defined the West Coast cool style.
