Album Notes & Community Reviews

Collaborating with arranger Bill Mathieu, the visionary bandleader scales back his typically bombastic brass sections to explore deeply nuanced, moody interpretations of classic jazz ballads. The complex, slightly dissonant orchestrations highlight the ensemble's sophisticated dynamic control and precise tonal shading. It stands as a reflective, highly intellectualized detour in the band's extensive catalog.
