This Modern World

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Further cementing his reputation as the most challenging leader of the big band era, Stan Kenton utilizes 'This Modern World' to blur the lines between jazz and contemporary classical music. The compositions, heavily featuring the work of Bill Russo and Bob Graettinger, employ extreme dissonance, unusual instrumentation, and sprawling, cinematic structures. The album is a polarizing, undeniably ambitious landmark of the Third Stream movement.
