Recorded while songwriter Chris Adams was suffering from collapsed lungs, the Scottish group's third album is suffused with themes of morbidity and existential dread. The unique instrumentation, heavily reliant on Grahame Smith's piercing electric violin rather than electric guitar, establishes an intensely dramatic, darkly compelling progressive folk atmosphere.
