Javelin

Album Notes & Community Reviews

'Javelin' signals a return to Sufjan Stevens’ singer-songwriter foundations, while seamlessly integrating the grander electronic and orchestral textures from across his varied career into a cohesive whole. Largely self-recorded, the album juxtaposes sparse, intimate moments of folk instrumentation against sudden, opulent swells of layered vocals and synthesized rhythms. Thematically, it is a raw and direct exploration of love, profound loss, and devotion, dedicated to his late partner.
