Biography
Sufjan Stevens is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist recognised for his expansive approach to the indie-folk form. His work merges acoustic textures with electronic elements, orchestral arrangements and conceptually ambitious structures, as on his state albums 'Michigan' (2003) and 'Illinois' (2005). His songwriting is marked by narrative depth, exploring faith, family and history with a distinct lyrical focus. As co-founder of the #Asthmatic Kitty# label, and through records from 'Seven Swans' to 'Carrie & Lowell', he has shaped independent music with a diverse and prolific output that expanded the boundaries of confessional and programmatic songwriting.
