Former Isis frontman Aaron Turner's extreme metal trio completely obliterates structural conventions on their punishing sophomore album. Recording with Kurt Ballou, the project utilizes terrifyingly heavy, constantly shifting sludge metal riffs that purposefully avoid traditional groove or resolution, leaning heavily into jagged dissonance and free improvisation. It is a deeply exhausting, mathematically complex masterclass in avant-garde heavy music.
