Album Notes & Community Reviews

'For You' is a landmark 1982 album that captures the pinnacle of the city pop sound, blending American-influenced funk, soul, and soft rock with a distinctly Japanese urban aesthetic. Tatsuro Yamashita's meticulous production is evident in the pristine soundscape, which layers lush, multi-tracked vocal harmonies, tight brass sections, and a flawless rhythm section to create a bright, summery atmosphere. Featuring English lyrics by collaborator Alan O'Day on the ballad 'Your Eyes' and iconic cover art by Eizin Suzuki, the record is considered a definitive work of both Yamashita's career and the genre itself.
