Tatsuro Yamashita

Tatsuro Yamashita is a Japanese singer-songwriter and record producer widely regarded as the "King of City Pop". [2, 3, 4, 6] His music, heavily influenced by American pop, soul, and funk, defined Japan's urban soundscape in the late 1970s and 1980s. [9, 10] Known for his meticulous production and multi-instrumental abilities, Yamashita often records entire tracks by himself, layering vocals, guitars, keyboards, and percussion. [2, 4] His sophisticated arrangements, smooth vocals, and fusion of Western styles with a Japanese sensibility have made him one of the most commercially successful and influential solo artists in Japanese music history.
