Biography
Tokyo-born singer, songwriter and producer, a cornerstone of Japanese city pop. After *Sugar Babe*'s 'Songs' (1975), Yamashita's solo records 'Ride on Time' (1980) and 'For You' (1982) defined the genre's gleaming, meticulously arranged sound, and his 1983 single 'Christmas Eve' became an evergreen Japanese standard. A perfectionist studio craftsman, he has also produced much of the catalogue of his wife, *Mariya Takeuchi*, and issues his own records through #Moon Records#.
