Soil

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Operating directly against the prevailing new age escapism common to the era's ambient music, Terre Thaemlitz's 'Soil' injects dense political and sociological commentary into its sprawling soundscapes. The album relies heavily on obscure field recordings, fragmented spoken word, and unsettling digital processing to explore complex themes of gender identity and urban isolation. It is a demanding, highly theoretical masterwork of experimental electroacoustic composition.
