Album Notes & Community Reviews
Formed from the ashes of The Housemartins, Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway's new project arrived fully formed with an immaculately produced blend of sophisti-pop and blue-eyed soul. The warm, inviting arrangements serve as a brilliant trojan horse for Heaton's ruthlessly sarcastic and pessimistic lyricism, touching upon domestic violence, alcoholism, and political hypocrisy. The standout single 'Song for Whoever' established their unique brand of acerbic chart-pop.
