Biography
The Beautiful South were a Hull pop rock group formed in 1988 by former *Housemartins* members Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway, with Dave Rotheray, Sean Welch and Dave Stead, later joined in turn by vocalists Briana Corrigan, Jacqui Abbott and Alison Wheeler. Beneath polished, catchy melodies on #Go! Discs# releases such as 'Welcome to the Beautiful South', 'Choke' and 'Blue Is the Colour', Heaton's lyrics skewered relationships, drink and British life. They split in 2007 after ten studio albums.
