The cosmic, Afrofuturist jazz trio, spearheaded by virtuosic saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings (under the moniker King Shabaka), erupts onto the London scene with a wildly energetic debut. The album violently collides spiritual jazz improvisation with heavily distorted analog synthesizers and pounding, club-ready drum beats. Earning a Mercury Prize nomination, it firmly positioned the group at the vanguard of the modern UK jazz revival.
