Biography
The Comet Is Coming was a London trio formed in 2013, when saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings joined keyboardist Dan Leavers and drummer Max Hallett, the duo *Soccer96*, for an improvised set. Performing as King Shabaka, Danalogue and Betamax, the three built a sound from jazz, electronica, funk and psychedelic rock, shaped by a shared love of *Sun Ra* and science fiction imagery. The EP 'Prophecy' appeared on #The Leaf Label# in 2015, followed by the debut album 'Channel the Spirits' in 2016, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band signed to #Impulse!# for 'Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery' (2019) and 'Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam' (2022). The Comet Is Coming played its final shows in 2023, ending a decade as one of the leading groups of the London jazz resurgence.
