We Are Paintermen

by The Creation

We Are Paintermen cover art

Essentially a compilation of the band's 1966–67 singles and other recordings, 'We Are Paintermen' was The Creation's only album during their initial tenure and was originally released exclusively in West Germany and Denmark. [1] The collection is defined by producer Shel Talmy's sharp production and the pioneering guitar work of Eddie Phillips, who famously used a violin bow to create feedback and distinctive textures on tracks like "Making Time" and "Painter Man". [3, 5, 7, 8] Despite its commercial failure upon release, the album became a highly influential document of the mod and psychedelic rock movements, capturing the transition between vocalists Kenny Pickett and Bob Garner.
