Produced by Phil Spector for his Philles Records imprint, 'Twist Uptown' was rushed to market to capitalize on the ongoing twist dance phenomenon. The album features early iterations of Spector's 'Wall of Sound' production technique and includes the controversial Carole King-penned hit 'He Hit Me (And It Felt Like a Kiss)'.
