Before descending into their signature gothic doom, The Cure debuted with a brilliantly jittery, angular blast of spiky post-punk pop. 'Three Imaginary Boys' relies on sparse, highly rhythmic arrangements and Robert Smith's anxious, slightly melancholic vocal delivery to create an incredibly playful, quirky, and fiercely energetic new wave foundation.
