Biography

Seattle-born guitarist whose work with *The Jimi Hendrix Experience* in London transformed rock music between 1966 and 1970. 'Are You Experienced' (1967) and 'Electric Ladyland' (1968), released in the US on #Reprise Records#, married blues, psychedelia and studio innovation, and his Woodstock performance of the American national anthem became an era-defining image. Hendrix also led the *Band of Gypsys* before dying in London in 1970, aged 27. His command of feedback, wah-wah and the recording studio permanently expanded the electric guitar's vocabulary.
