Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released as a double LP featuring one disc of studio material and one recorded live at Carnegie Hall, the project captures a band grappling with the grueling realities of touring. Ray Davies' songwriting is deeply steeped in vaudeville and music hall traditions, delivering cynical, witty observations on American culture, fame, and dietary habits on the road. The record marks a crucial transition towards their highly theatrical, conceptual rock operas of the mid-70s.
