Biography
Chicago singer whose five-octave range and whistle register made 'Lovin' You' (1975) one of soul's most distinctive number ones. From Rotary Connection and the *Charles Stepney*-produced 'Come to My Garden' (1970) to 'Perfect Angel' (1974), her warm, weightless voice bridged psychedelic soul, jazz and pop, and her final recordings were made as a celebrated public advocate for cancer awareness before her death in 1979.
