The Quality of Mercy Is Not Strnen

Originating from the same fertile Leeds art-school scene as Gang of Four, the band's debut is a wildly eccentric, politically charged slice of post-punk. The deliberately sloppy, amateurish musicianship is heavily offset by a wry, intellectual sense of humor and jagged, dub-influenced basslines. Featuring a famously misspelled title and an intentionally poor photograph of a different band on the cover, it revels in anti-commercial art-punk absurdity.
