Attempting to replicate the massive synthesizer-driven success of their previous release, the veteran progressive rock ensemble fully embraced highly polished, contemporary 80s production techniques. 'The Present' blends Justin Hayward's soaring pop melodies with sweeping, digitized orchestrations, courtesy of producer Pip Williams. While the hit single 'Blue World' received heavy rotation, the overall glossy transition alienated many longtime fans of their original, symphonic grandeur.
