Adopting the persona of a fictitious 1950s Chicano vocal group, Frank Zappa and The Mothers created a brilliant, highly affectionate pastiche of early rock and roll. 'Cruising With Ruben & The Jets' is wonderfully playful and fiercely melodic, matching beautifully warm doo-wop harmonies with remarkably humorous, slightly sarcastic rhythm and blues.
