Biography
The Mothers of Invention materialized in California as the primary vehicle for composer and guitarist Frank Zappa. Initially formed from an R&B group, the band quickly evolved to dismantle rock and roll conventions, merging satire, complex improvisation, and avant-garde compositional structures. Their work, beginning with the seminal 1966 album *Freak Out!*, was defined by sonic experimentation and a scathing critique of mainstream American culture and the counterculture alike.
