Incorporating much stronger jazz influences into their distinctly British eccentricity, The Soft Machine crafted an essential, wildly inventive Canterbury Scene classic. 'Volume Two' is wonderfully playful and fiercely progressive, balancing highly complex, slightly avant-garde jazz-rock structures with deeply surreal, highly quirky, and heavily humorous psychedelic pop sensibilities.
