Continuing their evolution away from pub-rock pugilism, The Stranglers integrated prominent acoustic guitars and a three-piece brass section into their mature mid-80s sound. The production relies on warm, sophisticated pop arrangements, highlighted by the massive European hit 'Skin Deep'. The record successfully reinvented the veteran group for a contemporary, mainstream new wave audience.
