Masterminded and largely performed by Prince behind the scenes, 'What Time Is It?' is an infectious distillation of the synth-heavy, funk-driven Minneapolis Sound. Morris Day's charismatic, swaggering vocal performances elevate the slick production, birthing massive club staples that heavily influenced 1980s R&B.
