Album Notes & Community Reviews
Originally envisioned as a sprawling concept album exploring Southern identity, 'Southern Accents' evolved into a remarkably warm, deeply melodic hybrid of heartland rock and polished 80s pop. Tom Petty infuses his signature jangle-pop sensibilities with prominent horn sections and synthesizers, creating a lush, incredibly accessible soundscape. The record is a mellow, commercially successful, and stylistically transitional moment for the band.
