Album Notes & Community Reviews
Operating independently out of Oakland, the pioneering West Coast MC continued to define his heavily funk-reliant, street-level aesthetic. 'Players' utilizes deep, synthesized Roland TR-808 basslines to support his deliberate, explicitly boastful lyricism. The record played a crucial role in establishing the independent hustle and sonic blueprint of the Bay Area hip-hop scene.
