Compiled primarily from demos recorded before the tragic death of guitarist Denis 'Piggy' D'Amour, the band finished the album around his finalized guitar tracks. The record leans away from their complex progressive thrash towards more direct, driving alternative metal hooks. It notably features former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted.
