A prominent disciple of the Lennie Tristano school, the tenor saxophonist leads a highly intellectual, exceptionally fluid quartet date. His incredibly dry, vibrato-less tone navigates complex, labyrinthine improvisations that eschew standard bebop clichés in favor of subtle, linear development. The record stands as a pristine example of the most cerebral and harmonically advanced wing of the cool jazz movement.
