Album Notes & Community Reviews
A pivotal album for Weather Report, 'Black Market' marked a shift toward a more groove-oriented and world music-influenced sound. The album is most notable for featuring the debut of bass prodigy Jaco Pastorius on two tracks, pointing the way toward the band's future commercial peak. The music is a brilliant blend of Zawinul's pioneering synthesizer work, Shorter's lyrical saxophone, and a powerful, funky rhythmic foundation.
