Biography
One of the preeminent and most influential bands of the jazz fusion era, Weather Report was founded by keyboardist Joe Zawinul and saxophonist Wayne Shorter, both alumni of *Miles Davis*'s groundbreaking electric bands. Initially an exploratory, atmospheric group rooted in collective improvisation, the band evolved to incorporate elements of funk, R&B, and world music, creating a sound that was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed. The addition of virtuoso bassist Jaco Pastorius in the mid-70s marked a pivotal moment, leading to their most iconic and best-selling work. Throughout their career, Weather Report was defined by the brilliant compositional and improvisational interplay between Zawinul and Shorter, and a constantly evolving lineup of master musicians.
