Produced by Cate Le Bon, 'Cousin' introduces subtle electronic textures and jagged art-rock sensibilities into the band's established Americana framework. The record shakes off the warm comfort of their recent output, relying instead on nervous rhythms, dissonant guitar lines, and Jeff Tweedy's increasingly existential lyricism. It is a highly textured, creatively reinvigorated effort.
