Album Notes & Community Reviews
Wu Man built 'Immeasurable Light' with ethnomusicologist Rembrandt F. Wolpert from pipa tablature preserved in the Dunhuang Mogao cave manuscripts and Tang dynasty lute music transmitted in Japan, expanding fragments of a few notes into full pieces. She performs every layered pipa part herself, alongside her own singing and percussion, and the Kronos Quartet joins her on the opening track, a Shaanxi shadow puppet theatre song.
