The independently released debut by Chicago band Yakuza, formed in July 1999, 'Amount to Nothing' fuses post-hardcore and progressive metal around Bruce Lamont's vocals and saxophone, with Eric Plonka on guitar, Eric Clark on bass and James Staffel on drums. Its complex, philosophical songwriting announced the jazz-inflected experimental metal the band developed across subsequent albums.
