Biography
Yakuza are an avant-garde metal band formed in Chicago in 1999 by Bruce Lamont, Eric Plonka, Eric Clark and James Staffel. Lamont's saxophone and clarinet collide with hardcore and metal riffing, drawing on free jazz, psychedelia and post-rock. Albums including 'Way of the Dead', 'Samsara', 'Transmutations' and 'Of Seismic Consequence' earned them a cult reputation, while later lineup members Matt McClelland, Ivan Cruz and Jerome Marshall helped carry the band to 'Sutra' in 2023.
