The French composer continued to meticulously build his distinctively whimsical, highly nostalgic musical universe utilizing toy pianos, accordions, and sweeping violins. The deeply melancholic, beautifully arranged instrumental miniatures draw equally from modern classical minimalism and traditional French folk melodies. Several compositions from this critically revered record were later repurposed for the massive international success of the 'Amélie' film soundtrack.
