Biography
Yann Tiersen is a French multi-instrumentalist and composer from Brittany. Classically trained on the piano and violin, he later embraced a punk ethos, which informed his unique musical vision. Though widely known for composing the soundtrack to the film 'Amélie', Tiersen primarily focuses on studio albums and touring. His music often blends minimalist and avant-garde sensibilities with folk and French café styles, utilizing a vast array of instruments from guitar and piano to accordion, toy piano, and synthesizers. He has released albums on labels like #Ici, d'ailleurs...# and #Mute Records#, often exploring themes of place, particularly the island of Ushant where he lives and works.
