Recorded in 1957 but issued later, this highly innovative session highlights the multi-instrumentalist's pioneering integration of Eastern scales and unconventional instrumentation into a modern jazz framework. Heavily featuring the argol, a double-reed Syrian instrument, alongside his robust tenor saxophone, the tracks introduce a deeply exotic, mesmerizing texture to the hard-bop idiom.
