Biography
A. L. Lloyd (1908 to 1982) was an English folk singer, song collector and folklorist, born in Wandsworth, London and raised partly on Australian sheep stations, where he first noted down traditional songs. A journalist and broadcaster before he was a professional singer, he recorded English, Australian and industrial folk material from the 1950s onward, often alongside *Ewan MacColl*. His albums 'English Drinking Songs' and 'The Iron Muse', and his scholarship in Folk Song in England, made him a mentor to the British folk revival generation.
