Biography
Alchemist was a progressive metal band from Canberra, Australia, active from 1987 to 2010. Formed by Adam Agius and settled around Agius, Rodney Holder, John Bray and Roy Torkington from 1991, the quartet fused thrash and death metal with progressive rock, psychedelia and Aboriginal rhythms across six studio albums, from 'Jar of Kingdom' in 1993 to 'Tripsis' in 2007. The band toured Europe, played the Big Day Out, and ran Canberra's Metal for the Brain festival, appearing at every edition. Sessions for a follow-up to 'Tripsis' collapsed amid exhaustion and disagreement, and Alchemist disbanded in 2010; Agius continued in *The Levitation Hex*.
