Biography

Arooj Aftab (born 1985, Riyadh) is a Pakistani vocalist and composer raised in Lahore and based in Brooklyn. Singing Urdu poetry and ghazal texts over minimalist jazz-inflected arrangements, she broke through with 'Vulture Prince' (2021); its track 'Mohabbat' made her the first Pakistani Grammy winner. 'Love in Exile' (2023), with *Vijay Iyer* and *Shahzad Ismaily*, and 'Night Reign' (2024) extended her nocturnal, meditative sound.
