At the Gates is a seminal Swedish band from Gothenburg, formed in 1990, and widely celebrated as a primary architect of the melodic death metal genre. Their innovative fusion of brutal death metal aggression with intricate guitar melodies helped define the 'Gothenburg sound'. The band's 1995 album 'Slaughter of the Soul', released by #Earache Records#, is universally regarded as a landmark record, profoundly influencing countless metal bands. After disbanding in 1996, the members pursued other projects before reuniting.
