Biography
Avantasia is the German metal opera project of *Edguy* singer Tobias Sammet, founded in 1999. Its concept albums cast leading metal vocalists as characters over symphonic power metal, beginning with 'The Metal Opera' (2001) and 'The Metal Opera Part II' (2002). Revived with guitarist and producer Sascha Paeth and keyboardist Miro, it produced 'The Scarecrow' (2008), 'Ghostlights' (2016), 'Moonglow' (2019) and 'Here Be Dragons' (2025), and grew into an arena touring production with a stable core band behind the rotating guest cast.
