Biography
Avatar is a Swedish metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 2001, fronted by Johannes Eckerstrom, whose clown-faced ringmaster persona anchors their theatrical live shows. Starting in melodic death metal, they broke through with 'Black Waltz' in 2012 and built a devoted international following through 'Hail the Apocalypse', 'Feathers and Flesh', 'Avatar Country', 'Hunter Gatherer' and 'Dance Devil Dance'. The core line-up of Eckerstrom, Jonas Jarlsby, Tim Ohrstrom, Henrik Sandelin and John Alfredsson has stayed almost unchanged, and the single 'The Dirt I'm Buried In' topped US mainstream rock radio in 2023.
