Biography
London trio Black Box Recorder — vocalist Sarah Nixey, *The Auteurs*' Luke Haines and former *The Jesus and Mary Chain* guitarist John Moore — formed in 1997 and debuted with 'England Made Me' (1998), a collection of lush, minimal pop songs with bleakly ironic lyrics. 'The Facts of Life' (2000) brought a UK Top 20 title-track hit, and 'Passionoia' followed in 2003. After a hiatus, collaborations with *Art Brut* and live returns in 2008–2009, the group split in 2010, having defined a cool, sardonic strain of English indie pop.
