Biography
Edward "Butch" Warren was the de facto house bassist for #Blue Note Records# during its hard-bop zenith in the early 1960s. His deep, dependable, and powerfully swinging bass lines anchored a remarkable number of classic albums, including *Herbie Hancock*'s 'Takin' Off', *Dexter Gordon*'s 'Go!', *Joe Henderson*'s 'Page One', and *Kenny Dorham*'s 'Una Mas'. He also toured and recorded with *Thelonious Monk*, appearing on the album 'It's Monk's Time'. Though his prolific career was tragically cut short by severe personal struggles, his foundational contribution to the jazz lexicon is immense, and he remains a celebrated figure of the era.
