Biography
Thad Jones was a formidable trumpeter, cornetist, and one of the most revered composers and arrangers in modern jazz. Hailing from a legendary musical family with brothers *Hank Jones* and *Elvin Jones*, he first gained prominence as a soloist and writer with the *Count Basie Orchestra*. However, his most significant legacy is the groundbreaking Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, co-founded with drummer *Mel Lewis*. This ensemble, known for its residency at the Village Vanguard, redefined big band writing with complex, witty, and deeply swinging charts on albums for #Solid State# like 'Central Park North' and 'Consummation', which introduced his classic composition 'A Child Is Born'.
